2013 NFL Power Rankings Week 6

Do you remember last year's AFC West? It was Peyton Manning's first go round as a member of the Denver Broncos. After a slow start Denver reeled off 11 straight wins to capture the top seed in the AFC playoffs and win the division by a staggering six games. The division on the whole was pitiful with a combined record of 26-38. The Broncos actually won as many games as the rest of the division put together. Many thought that might be the case again this year. Not so fast. With a new coach and a new quarterback the Kansas City Chiefs are keeping pace with the Broncos as the only undefeated teams left in the NFL. This Chiefs team has already tripled last season's win total when they went 2-14 and had the worst record in the league. My how things have changed. These teams won't square off until Week 11 and there's a good possibility that by then one, or both, will have lost a game or two. But what if they don't? Wouldn't that make for a juicy matchup? I know I'm rooting for it. So the AFC West reigns supreme atop this week's rankings. See where your team sits after the latest slate of games.

1. Denver Broncos (6-0) ~ Just another Peyton Manning led team surging at the start of the season. Ho hum. (Last Week's Ranking 1)

2. Kansas City Chiefs (6-0) ~ It is nearing the point where the Chiefs could lose out and Andy Reid may still be Coach of the Year. He has done that good of a job. (LWR 3)

3. New Orleans Saints (5-1) ~ They suffered their first defeat of the season in Foxborough and really gave it away. After Tom Brady threw that pick with two minutes left there was no reason the Saints couldn't run the clock out. You cannot give Brady the ball with a chance to win it. That's why he is the Golden Boy. (LWR 2)

4. Seattle Seahawks (5-1) ~ It wasn't pretty but Seattle took care of a fiesty Tennesse team at home. No team wants to travel to Seattle come playoff time. (LWR 4)

5. New England Patriots (5-1) ~ I heard a number over the weekend that nearly floored me. Tom Brady's career win-loss record. Brace yourself. 158-47. There are no words for mastery like that. (LWR 6)

6. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) ~ They may have needed overtime to fend off the Buffalo Bills but I still believe in this team. They are only going to get better as rookie Giovanni Vernanrd's role expands as well. (LWR 7)

7. Indianapolis Colts (4-2) ~ This weekend marks the return of that Peyton Manning fellow. I can't imagine an opposing player has ever received a welcome like the one he will surely receive on Sunday. (LWR 5)

8. San Francisco 49ers (4-2) ~ Remember when the Niners were 1-2? Yeah, me either. (LWR 8)

9. Chicago Bears (4-2) ~ When you think of the Bears you think of defense. This Bears team, however, is doing it with offense. The D is allowing nearly 27 points a game so far. (LWR 9)

10. Green Bay Packers (3-2) ~ A big win was coupled with a big loss as star receiver Randall Cobb broke his fibula and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Losing a dynamic player like that will certainly hurt the Packers in the tough NFC North. (LWR 10)

11. Detroit Lions (4-2) ~ If you had five guesses at who hauled in three touchdown passes for the Lions on Sunday you would miss on all five. It was Joseph Fauria. The Lions have matched last season's win total. (LWR 13)

12. Miami Dolphins (3-2) ~ Miami hosts the Bills this week in what will be their first division game of the season. Doesn't seem real that they haven't had one of those yet. (LWR 12)

13. Baltimore Ravens (3-3) ~ Where oh where has Baltimore's run game gone? Ray Rice has only one game so far this season in which he has rushed for more than 40 yards. (LWR 11)

14. Dallas Cowboys (3-3) ~ DeMarco Murray? Out. DeMarcus Ware? Out. With first place in the NFC East on the line this week in Philadelphia the Cowboys are missing two of their best weapons on either side of the ball. (LWR 16)

15. Tennessee Titans (3-3) ~ They were oh so close to knocking off the Seahawks in Seattle which is no small feat. They get another crack at the NFC West this week when the hot Niners roll into town. Odds Colin Kaepernick outrushes Chris Johnson? I'd say good. (LWR 15)

16. San Diego Chargers (3-3) ~ San Diego has alternated wins and losses so far this season. With a matchup against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars this week they will look to snap that trend and make it two W's in a row. (LWR 19)

17. Philadelphia Eagles (3-3) ~ Philly may be 3-3 but the combined record of the teams they have defeated is a ghastly 1-15. That said, a win at home against the Cowboys leaves them sitting atop the NFC East. (LWR 22)

18. Houston Texans (2-4) ~ Matt Schaub went down and the Houston crowd cheered. One of the more disgusting acts from a fanbase I have seen this year. (LWR 14)

19. Cleveland Browns (3-3) ~ Brandon Weeden is back and so are the losing ways for Cleveland. The late interception on a high, floating shovel pass is inexcusable. (LWR 17)

20. Arizona Cardinals (3-3) ~ If the Cardinals have any hopes at a division crown they must win against Seattle at home Thursday night. I repeat. Must win. (LWR 18)

21. St. Louis Rams (3-3) ~ Their beatdown of the Texans in Houston was so shocking that I half to believe half of the Rams roster didn't see that one coming. I mean, c'mon. (LWR 24)

22. New York Jets (3-3) ~ New York had a chance to move into second place in the division and all but end the Pittsburgh Steelers' season on Sunday. They did neither. (LWR 20)

23. Atlanta Falcons (1-4) ~ The Falcons are all but out of the running for the division title and with the loss of Julio Jones for the year I am starting to wonder if they are out of the running for a playoff spot. (LWR 21)

24. Carolina Panthers (2-3) ~ Last week I called out Cam Newton. He responded with a four touchdown performance to shut me up double-time as he was an opposing quarterback in one of my fantasy leagues. Way to make me eat it Cam. (LWR 26)

25. Buffalo Bills (2-4) ~ Matt Flynn has joined the quarterback carousel in Buffalo and with Thad Lewis hampered he may be thrust into action this week. Things are not going well in upstate New York. (LWR 23)

26. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-4) ~ If you had Week six as the point where the Steelers would force their first turnover of the season then, well, you sir can see the future. (LWR 29)

27. Oakland Raiders (2-4) ~ Terrelle Pryor, a scrambilng quarterback, was sacked a staggering 10 times on Sunday. My brain can't quite figure out how that happened. (LWR 27)

28. Minnesota Vikings (1-4) ~ Is this the week Josh Freeman starts his first game as a Viking? Matt Cassell was even worse than Christian Ponder. And we all know how I feel about Christian Ponder. (LWR 25)

29. Washington Redskins (1-4) ~ The Redskins and their porous defense will welcome in Jay Cutler and the explosive Bears this weekend. Things aren't getting any easier in Washington. (LWR 28)

30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-5) ~ Tampa Bay is now 0-2 against Nick Foles. Foles has yet to beat another team in his young NFL career. (LWR 31)

31. New York Giants (0-6) ~ Matthew Berry had a great line the other day, and I'm paraphrasing: "I used to call them the New York football Giants but I won't anymore because whatever they are doing it isn't football."

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-6) ~ They hung tough in Denver. I'll give them that. The 27 1/2 point spread was an insult and I for one am glad they covered. (LWR 32)
