2014 MLB Fantasy Fixer-Uppers Week 11

Were you the lucky person who plucked Gregory Polanco off of the waiver wire last week? Kudos to you. Sadly I did not get that chance. Of all the players who should be called up this year he was the one I valued the greatest. Oh well. Can't win them all. But even if you didn't get Polanco you can still win your league. It's why you're here isn't it? For my help? Smart choice.

Dexter Fowler, OF, Houston Astros (65% owned ESPN leagues)

Fowler started the year a bit slowly but has been on a tear lately. A quiet tear at that. Being that he plays for Houston he isn't getting the recognition he deserves but Fowler has tallied multi-hit games in seven of his last dozen contests. He is hitting atop a Houston lineup that is much improved with the additions of George Springer and Jon Singleton and is poised to score a lot of runs due to his .389 OBP. Fowler does have wheels too and should provide for some solid stolen base numbers and even provide some occasional pop. I would trust him over Shane Victorino going forward.

Brock Holt, 3B, Boston Red Sox (41% owned)

The legend of Brock Holt grows stronger every day. Originally called up to help out with infield depth Holt is now seeing action in the outfield as John Farrell needs to keep his hot bat in the lineup. The second year player is slashing .333/.375/.456 with his OBP and slugging on pace with a more well known Boston player none other than David Ortiz. In fantasy sports (and in real ones too) it isn't always the sexy names that provide the big numbers for a team. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper. Brock Holt is one of those players and he can be had for nothing in more than half of ESPN leagues.

Andrew Heaney, SP, Miami Marlins (20% owned)

All the buzz is about Heaney making his major league debut Thursday at home against the New York Mets. He was 7-2 between AA and AAA this year with an impressive 79:15 K:BB ratio which the Marlins are hoping will translate over to the bigs. Is he going to be the next Jose Fernandez? No. But there aren't many of those around. Will he be a solid starter in the pros? He could be. I'm still unsure about his long term value but I think he is worth a speculative add if you have the room. Perhaps he does well out of the gate and you can flip him for something else. Perhaps you need pitching and he helps solidify a spot on your team. Perhaps he's a total bust. That's part of the fun of managing a fantasy team, isn't it?

Neil Ramirez, RP, Chicago Cubs (14% owned)

With Hector Rondon's health an issue of late Ramirez has been getting the ball in the ninth and he has continued to impress. The rookie has compiled a stellar 1.06 ERA and 0.76 WHIP in nineteen innings this season and has locked down all three of his save opportunities. He has more than five strikeouts for every walk so far and has surrendered just one home run. Rondon has also been impressive closing games out so Ramirez may not be the closer but even if he isn't getting saves his numbers will improve any fantasy roster. He is worth an add is all leagues at the moment.

Scooter Gennett, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers (8% owned)

Scooter Gennet is starting to make fans in Milwaukee forget all about Rickie Weeks. Gennett has been unstoppable since the calendar flipped to June hitting a robust .396 which includes a current four-game multi-hit streak. He is leading off for a powerful Brewers lineup and should score a lot of runs the rest of the way. He isn't an overly powerful second baseman but there truly aren't many who are. He should hit 8-10 more home runs the rest of the way and anything else is a bonus. He will hit for average, get on base, score some runs and steal a few bases. What more could you ask from your second baseman that isn't named Robinson Cano?
