2014 NFL Power Rankings Week 6

Once again we have movement at the top of the rankings. Last week's number one, Seattle, went down at home in a surprising upset to the Dallas Cowboys who may have made a statement with that win. Was it enough to surge all the way to the top or will someone else lay claim to the throne this week?

1. Denver Broncos (4-1) ~ Peyton Manning needs just three touchdown passes to break Brett Favre's all-time career mark. Will he get it at home this week against San Francisco? (Last Week's Ranking 2)

2. San Diego Chargers (5-1) ~ Could Philip Rivers be headed towards an MVP this season? He may get lesser pub than fellow division mate Manning but Rivers has thrown for more yards (1,756) and less interceptions (2) than Manning. (LWR 3)

3. Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) Just when you thought it was safe to doubt the Eagles they go out and pitch their first shutout in 18 years against the rival New York Giants. The banged-up Eagles squad is flying high as they hit their bye week which is much needed to rest up some of their injured players. (LWR 4)

4. Dallas Cowboys (5-1) ~ OK. I'm impressed. I've been knocking Dallas all year waiting for an impressive win and they just wrapped up perhaps the most impressive win thus far in the NFL. *golf clap* (LWR 10)

5. Seattle Seahawks (3-2) ~ Everyone knows Seattle plays well at home which makes the loss to Dallas that much more surprising. But do you know just how well they play at home? Sunday's loss was just the second of Russell Wilson's career at home. (LWR 1)

6. Indianapolis Colts (4-2) ~ T.Y. Hilton went off Thursday night catching nine passes for a career-high 223 yards with a score to boot as the Colts built a big lead and then held on to put away the Houston Texans. Indy is now 3-0 in their division this year. (LWR 5)

7. Arizona Cardinals (4-1) ~ Carson Palmer took the field for the first time since Week One and Larry Fitzgerald had his biggest game of the year hauling in six passes for 98 yards and his first touchdown of the year. If Palmer can remain healthy expect more of that from Larry. (LWR 7)

8. San Francisco 49ers (4-2) ~ San Fran nearly fell victim to a trap game in St. Louis but rallied after falling down 14-0. Up next is a date in Denver in which Manning will attempt to set the record for most career touchdown passes. (LWR 8)

9. Green Bay Packers (4-2) ~ Aaron Rodgers channeled his inner Dan Marino with a fake spike down in Miami. His next pass went for the go-ahead touchdown with three seconds on the clock. In Rodgers we trust. (LWR 9)

10. Cincinnati Bengals (3-1-1) ~ Is there anything more anticlimactic in the NFL than a tie? I mean, c'mon. Seriously? Ugh. (LWR 6)

11. Baltimore Ravens (4-2) ~ Joe Flacco threw for four touchdown passes in the first quarter. That's what kind of day it was for the Ravens. (LWR 11)

12. New England Patriots (4-2) ~ The Pegula's may now own the Bills but Tom Brady has owned them for the past decade or so winning 23 of the last 25 matchups. That's domination Holmes. (LWR 12)

13. Detroit Lions (4-2) ~ Calvin Johnson missed Sunday's game and reports say he may miss the next two as well. If the Lions are going to challenge the Packers they will need the best receiver in the league to be healthy. (LWR 13)

14. Carolina Panthers (3-2-1) ~ The other half of the reason there was a tie this weekend. At least they get some points for doing it on the road where Cincinnati went 8-0 last year. Also of note this was the first tie in team history. So there's that. (LWR 15)

15. Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) ~ KC will come out of the bye with a huge game against San Diego. A loss may put them out of arm's reach in the tough AFC West. (LWR 17)

16. Chicago Bears (3-3) ~ Matt Forte can do it all. He ran for 80 yards and two scores and also caught 10 passes for another 77 yards. Now that is the definition of a dual threat. (LWR 21)

17. Cleveland Browns (3-2) ~ If Brian Hoyer can lead the Browns to the playoffs what will become of Johnny Manziel? The quarterback contoversy in Cleveland is no more. (LWR 23)

18. New Orleans Saints (2-3) ~ The Saints are 0-3 on the road and have a tough test this week as they visit Detroit. At least the game is in a dome, right? (LWR 20)

19. New York Giants (3-3) ~ Eli Manning was sacked seven times in his first five games. On Sunday the Eagles dropped him six times and backup Ryan Nassib twice more. (LWR 14)

20. Houston Texans (3-3) ~ JJ Watt did it again. This time he took a fumble back to the house for his third touchdown of the season. Too bad you can't put him into your fantasy lineup. (LWR 16)

21. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3) ~ Sunday's loss dropped Ben Roethlisberger to 18-2 overall versus the Browns. He, like Brady against the Bills, has owned them over the past decade. That just wasn't the case this time around. (LWR 18)

22. Buffalo Bills (3-3) ~ A win on Sunday would have left the Bills alone in first place atop the AFC East. They host Minnesota this week in a favorable matchup as the Bills look to end the NFL's longest playoff drought. (LWR 22)

23. Atlanta Falcons (2-4) ~ I wanted to believe in the Falcons. I thought they would have a bounce back year and win the NFC South. With a patchwork offensive line and no defense it might be time for me to admit that I was way off on my prediction. (LWR 19)

24. Miami Dolphins (2-3) ~ Well, Knowshon Moreno did play this weekend only three weeks after suffering a dislocated elbow. After the game the Dolphins placed him on injured reserve thus ending his season. (LWR 24)

25. Tennessee Titans (2-4) ~ It took a blocked field goal at the end of regulation to stave off the winless Jacksonville Jaguars. A win is a win but this one was anything but pretty. (LWR 29)

26. Minnesota Vikings (2-4) ~ Is it time to usher in the era (or at least season) of Jerick McKinnon? The rookie took over starting duties from incumbent Matt Asiata on Sunday and clearly has the higher ceiling. Will the Vikings go with the unknown or stick with what they know? (LWR 25)

27. Washington Redskins (1-5) ~ All DeSean Jackson does is score long touchdowns. His 64-yard score against the Cardinals was this third touchdown of more than 60 yards this season, tops in the NFL. (LWR 26)

28. St. Louis Rams (1-4) ~ Last week they nearly erased a 27-point deficit against the Eagles. This time they blew a 14-point lead against the 49ers. They're showing promise but can't seem to put it all together for 60 minutes. (LWR 28)

29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-5) ~ Remember the time when Tampa Bay was all about defense? Remember when head coach Lovie Smith was reviled for defense? Well, neither can seem to be found in Tampa this year. The 204 points yielded so far are worst in the NFL. (LWR 27)

30. New York Jets (1-5) ~ Geno Smith had a chance to lead a game-winning drive in the final minute and pull off the upset against the Broncos. Instead he was sacked for what should have been a safety (blown call) and then promptly threw a pick-six thereby ending the game. (LWR 30)

31. Oakland Raiders (0-5) ~ Derek Carr had three touchdown passes on the season entering Sunday's game. He threw four on Sunday nearly pulling off the upset against the division-rival Chargers. (LWR 31)

32. Jacksonville Jaguars 90-6) ~ I don't want to believe they will go winless but Sunday was a golden opportunity to break through in the win column. It just wasn't meant to be. (LWR 31)
